Hiroshima & Nagasaki
80 Years of Remembrance (1945–2025)
The atomic bombings of Japan – Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and Nagasaki on August 9, 1945 exposed the darkest side of humanity. What followed the relentless proliferation of nuclear weapons revealed a troubling paradox: not a fear of human destruction, but a profound fear of peace, the very source of natural wisdom.
At Peace Doctors, we define natural wisdom as both a deep understanding of universal realities and the practical ability to guide human development.
It is precisely the call for such wisdom that unites humanity on this 80th anniversary not only to honor the memory of the victims of the atomic bombings, but also to celebrate the remarkable resilience of the human spirit and its capacity for survival, growth, and peace.
Over the past eighty years, the world has witnessed the justification of nuclear weapons often called “nuclear peace” a stark reminder that the threat of destruction can appear more compelling than the pursuit of harmonious relations between states.
However, at Peace Doctors we draw attention to an overlooked detail: invert the letters of harmony, and you discover no harm. “This simple truth captures the sheer essence” said Mrs Keiko Ogura, a Hiroshima survivor “it means exactly that: no harm”. There is no harm in harmony, only wisdom. And without the wisdom that sustains harmony, there can be no true peace.
The 80th anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki calls us to come together and recognize that the time has come to create the conditions in which humanity pledges an oath of no harming.
Harmony is the creative force that inspires societies to transform their potential. The history of Hiroshima and Nagasaki proves this. Harmony emerges through the pursuit of diversity and the embrace of different values. Some of these values may create tension or even conflict, yet as a manifestation of peace and wisdom, harmony offers humanity a harmless path to coexistence and mutual guidance.
Plato observed that the common purpose of harmony is for cities to prosper, while Confucius taught that the strength of a nation lies in choosing the correct path. Today, the only path worthy of humanity is the path of harmony essential for the flourishing of human development. It is rooted in our collective nature and, like every discipline worth acquiring, requires conscious effort: to pursue it, to practice it, to perfect it.
The universe itself stands as the ultimate example of perfect governance an order grounded in harmony, not in chaos or anarchy. The pursuit of international harmony is not a passive wish but an active journey.
Let us, therefore, choose harmony as the path of governance. Let us pursue it, practice it, and perfect it. Let us build a world where the wisdom of harmony leads us away from the shadows of the past and towards a bright future of peace.
