Harmony: The Absence of Conflict
Tuesday, 20th May 2025 The global conversation around national well-being took a significant turn in 2016 when the United Arab Emirates (UAE) appointed a Minister of State for Happiness. This move built upon the groundwork laid by the Kingdom of Bhutan, where Gross National Happiness (GNH) was already a deeply ingrained constitutional principle. However, the UAE charted a new course, becoming the first country to specifically target the happiness and well-being of its diverse population through creative policy-making and cutting-edge artificial intelligence initiatives.
The core of this effort was to craft government policies, programs, and services that encourage a positive way of life, complemented by the development of a robust happiness index to gauge public satisfaction.
This international momentum was followed by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) when a group of academics established the Laboratory of Happiness and Subjective Well-being (LFyBS) just two years later, in 2018.
On May 20th, it was the honour of Ipeacedoctors to deliver the lecture “Harmony: The Absence of Conflict” to this unique team of intellectuals, comprising psychologists, doctors, economists, and sociologists. Despite their diverse academic backgrounds, they were united in their purpose: achieving happiness and harmony for their community. And so, demonstrating Ipeacedoctors’ commitment to a deep and cross-cultural understanding of happiness, we turned to revise the etymology of “harmony” in Asia.
It was truly impressive to discover the resonance between the concept of harmony in Asia and its counterpart in the Americas. They all looked to the sky for answers. No wonder the Law of Harmony starts with the planetary movement.
This initial exploration into the cross-cultural resonance of harmony, opens up exciting avenues for future research. We believe further investigation into the etymological roots and practical applications of harmony across diverse cultures can offer invaluable insights for fostering global well-being and peace.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the dedicated team the Laboratory of Happiness and Subjective Well-being (LFyBS) formed by: Bac. Ernesto Takayanagui García, Academic Technician, PhD Úrsula Oswald Spring, Researcher, PhD Maribel Ríos Everardo, Researcher, PhD Ma. Del Rocío Hernández Pozo, Researcher and PhD. Erika Rivero Espinoza, Researcher. We would also like to thank the collaboration of Fernando Bahena, Prof. Hugo Saavedra Astudillo and Prof. Julio César Salinas Rodríguez Prof. Faculty of Economics from the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos for their engagement and insightful discussions during our lecture.
To all other colleagues, we would also like to thank you for your participation and your insightful discussions during our conference. Your commitment to understanding and promoting happiness and harmony within the community is truly inspiring.
The Think Tank Ipeacedoctors look forward to future collaborations and the continued pursuit of a more harmonious world.
