Colombia, Peace Declared, Harmony Deferred?

On April 4, 2025, in Bogotá, Colombia, International Peace Doctors presented the Harmony and Peace Prize at the XIV Latin American Congress of Peace Research.

The Harmony and Peace Prize recognizes efforts that align with geometric harmony principles, highlighting their connection to the cosmos, nature, and the importance of harmonious human interaction. These principles hold particular relevance for Colombia, a nation of immense natural and cultural wealth, yet one grappling with the complexities of achieving lasting stability.

Colombia, one of the most biodiverse and fertile countries in the world, presents an outward appearence of peace across its varied landscapes. From the lush Amazon rainforest to the snow-capped Andes Mountains and the vibrant coral reefs along the Pacific coast, the country boasts a blend of breathtaking scenery and abundant natural resources.

This natural wealth is further enhanced by a rich cultural tapestry interwoven with indigenous, African, and European influences, evident in its music, dance, and gastronomy.

However, this outward appearance of peace contrasts sharply with the realities of armed conflict. To address the ongoing violence in Colombia, the application of active and passive harmony principles is crucial. These principles are essential to foster an environment where harmonious relationships can flourish.

By embracing harmony principles in governance and social programs, with a focus on humanity, Colombia has the potential to move towards a future of genuine and lasting stability. Although the 2016 peace agreement was a large step in the right direction, the continued application of harmony principles is essential to ensuring that Colombia can achieve true stability.
